Information about air quality

We would like to provide further information on the articles published in the media on 13 February 2024 in the following post.

The extremely poor indoor air quality results reported in the article were measured in April 2022 at the company's Szigetszentmiklós site, near the TOP 500 battery waste processing machine. It is important to stress that workers are not directly exposed to the indoor air of the hall building. They are provided with respiratory protection masks with the appropriate protective capacity, as specified in the personal protective equipment (PPE) order. PPE is required to wear inside the hall. The company has recently stepped up its monitoring of this and sanctions failure to wear them to protect workers. Air quality measurements were also carried out at other points at the time and, although the results were above the limit value, significantly lower concentrations of pollutants were detected at these points.

As a result of immediate action by management, a high-efficiency air purification unit was installed near the grinder. Following the purchase and installation of the equipment, further accredited indoor air quality measurements were carried out on 1 August 2022 by Akusztika Ltd. The results of the tests show that the concentration of nickel and cobalt in the indoor air has been reduced by more than 95% in the most critical workplaces, but some of the pollutants are still present in the air.

After analyzing the data, the company's management has decided to stop the operation of the TOP 500 battery waste treatment machine, which was the most harmful to indoor air quality. The grinder has since been completely decommissioned. In addition, a new high-efficiency ventillation system was installed in 2023 to clean the air in the workplace by extracting all possible sources of exhaust fumes. Of course, workers' protective equipment is still provided and must be worn.

The emission horns of the extraction equipment are licensed by the local Environmental Protection Authority and accredited emission measurements are carried out every year by an external contractor. An evaluation of the measurement carried out in August 2023 can be found here. Comparing the measurement results with the relevant limit value, it can be seen that the measured value is less than 5% of the limit value set in the air protection regulations.
